Cherish time with family this Easter
WHEN the chance for a family Christmas was cancelled at the last minute, we were told to postpone gettogethers until Easter. It’s now Easter and a gathering, even in the garden, is not possible if your extended family numbers more than six people. I am keen to take advantage of every opportunity to see my daughters and their families for a walk while taking care to minimise the risks. Time together is precious to us all. It’s so disappointing for the many families who delayed Christmas until Easter that they will need to postpone the long-anticipated gathering. If it’s postponed again, how many elderly frail parents will be around next Christmas? It is extremely important for the older generation to keep in touch with their children and grandchildren, but I know many people who have not seen their families since before the first lockdown. Some don’t understand the rules or are fearful of seeing anyone, even outdoors. I encourage families to follow the rules sensibly and meet whenever the opportunity arises. Even with the success of the vaccine rollout, it may still be some time before we are allowed to return to some form of normality.
JOHN MARTIN, Swarthmoor, Cumbria. EASTER is an opportunity to reflect on the past year, remembering all who lost their lives. It’s a time to give thanks for our NHS, all those who worked during the pandemic and the many volunteers who gave up their time to help those in need. In record time we have a vaccine and the promise of a brighter future.
