Kidnapped in broad daylight

Victim bundled into back of van

- By George Odling Crime Reporter

IT could have been one of the more shocking scenes from Line of Duty.

Terrifying CCTV footage shows the moment suspected kidnappers attack a man and bundle him into the back of a grey van before speeding away.

The hooded men punch their victim as he flails on the ground before slamming him into the side of the vehicle.

One attacker slaps him around the face while he is propped up against the van, before shoving him inside. The vehicle then speeds off with its sliding door still open, closely followed by a black BMW driven by someone who had been speaking with the victim moments before he was attacked.

Police are appealing for information about the kidnapping, which took place in South Woodford, east London, on Sunday at around 3pm. Scotland Yard said the van was stopped in Chigwell, Essex, and three men jumped out and ran away. Two men, both aged in their 20s, were arrested nearby and charged with kidnap and false imprisonment.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was found in the back of the van and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are trying to trace the third suspect in the van, as well as the BMW’s driver.

Detective Sergeant Sajid Asghar, of Scotland Yard, said: ‘This was a brazen act carried out in broad daylight while shocked witnesses looked on.

‘Thankfully officers responded swiftly and we are now appealing to the public to help us apprehend and bring to justice the dangerous individuals responsible.’
