Army back to ‘infantary’ school

- By Mark Nicol Defence Editor

RED-FACED Army chiefs hurriedly removed a new sign outside a barracks after a glaring spelling mistake was spotted.

The sign was unveiled after soldiers from 51st Infantry Brigade moved into their new HQ at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh.

But then a commander realised that ‘Infantry’ had been spelled ‘Infantary’. The sign was quickly taken down – but not before pictures of the error had been shared and mocked on social media.

Other Army units traditionally but unfairly claim that the infantry are not the military’s brightest stars.

The Ministry of Defence declined to comment but one serving infantryman said: ‘We get a hard enough time as it is, without doing stupid things like this.

‘It is not like infantry is a particularly difficult word to spell – even I can manage it. Now it feels like the rest of the Army are laughing at us.’
