Lads out of step
I AM bewildered that the MoD joint equality, diversity and inclusion unit has banned soldiers from using the term ‘lads’ for fear of upsetting women.
As a former soldier, I know the tough basic training regime weeds out those who aren’t cut out for a military career where you might have to kill or be killed.
Pen-pushers coming up with these directives won’t be the ones risking their lives on a battlefield.
ANGUS LONG, Newcastle upon Tyne. SOLDIERS have been told not to use the terms lads, gents, men, mankind and sportsmanship.
Is it any wonder recruitment is slowing when we have ridiculous, politically correct nonsense. In a battle, will a sergeant or corporal muster their troops by saying: ‘Please can you people follow me.’
CHRIS SHARP, Leeds.
IF THE word ‘lads’ is to be banned in the Army, will fine regimental tunes such as Highland Laddie, Men Of Harlech and My Boy Willie be dropped?
