WILL BUICK NOW LOOK TO MASTER GUINEAS?

TRAINER Charlie Appleby reckons Master Of The Seas may have done enough to convince William Buick that he should be his mount in the 2,000 Guineas back at Newmarket in just over a fortnight. Master of the Seas, who beat stablemate La Barrosa threequarters of a length in the bet365 Craven Stakes at the track yesterday, is a 14-1 shot for the first colts’ Classic of the season. This is more than double the odds of his Appleby-trained, Godolphin-owned stablemate One Ruler (6-1), who won Newmarket’s Autumn Stakes as a two-year-old before finishing second in the Group One Vertem Futurity Stakes. Master of The Seas raced far too keenly when hitting the front in last season’s Group One National Stakes at the Curragh before finishing fourth. But wearing a calming hood for the first time he was more restrained and finished off the Craven Stakes vigorously. Appleby, who took Master of The Seas to Dubai over the winter where he finished second in a race at Meydan, said: ‘On the back of what the horse has achieved today it might be hard for William to get off him. The hood was going to be key. ‘In the National Stakes he came out the gate as if his tail was on fire. We were keen he did things the right way round.’
