TOM FELLOWS

AGE: 18 CLUB: WEST BROMWICH ALBION POSITION: RIGHT WING VALUE: £600,000

WHAT HAS HE GOT?

JUST 18, this wide-right player has had some experience playing as a right back and has the attributes and stature to play there. He has a nice size and decent pace. On this occasion I saw him play as a more orthodox wide right. Limited in experience so far, he has some good characteristics. He runs easily, covering the ground with a nice economical stride. I like the way Fellows (right) pulled off the opposition left back’s shoulder out of his eyeline into wide areas where he had the space and yardage to run into when he received a pass. Essentially a right-footed player, he showed a good team ethic, working back well to aid his colleagues when possession was lost. Twice in the first half he moved across the box in possession from wide, on to the full back’s weaker foot. On both occasions he got his shot away with left-foot benders.

He was a constant threat in a promising group and if West Brom go down he may get an early league chance.

WHAT DOES HE NEED?

IN RECENT seasons West Brom have produced a good youth team. Players such as Rayhaan Tulloch, Sam Field, Jonathan Leko, Rekeem Harper and Morgan Rogers all looked destined for possible first-team football. Rogers moved to Manchester City and is on loan at Lincoln. Field is on loan at QPR. But none has managed to secure first-team football at his parent club — proof of the high standards required. Fellows’ challenge is to break this pattern and I think if he works hard and has some luck then he may break through. In this game the opponents were handicapped by a sending-off and three injuries. Against 10 men, Fellows took advantage with his thrusting wing play and looks a player who seizes on opportunities.
