■ ANDRIA ZAFIRAKOU (pictured) was working in a school in one of the most disadvantaged areas in the country when she was awarded the annual Global Teacher prize; she was the first British teacher to receive this award. Andria, who’s passionate about the importance of teaching art, has a book out called Those Who Can, Teach. She joins MARK FORREST (SCALA RADIO, 10AM) to explain how her book is very much a tribute to all teachers engaged in a hard, crucial job. ■ THE black American writer James Baldwin was living quietly in a book-filled old house in Provence. Then, in the Eighties, his 1954 play The Amen Corner became a hit on the London stage. Actor Clarke Peters, who was in that London production, takes up the story of JAMES

BALDWIN’S LAST AMEN (RADIO 4, 11.30AM).

■ DAVID SEDARIS and his friend Patsy take trips to the kind of European countries nobody wants to emigrate to.

They make early-morning visits to what the guidebooks describe as flea markets. These turn out to be muddy fields where stocky women in headscarves sell you crocheted blankets the colour of sorrow. To conclude the latest series of MEET DAVID SEDARIS (RADIO 4, 6.30PM), the American humorist explains why he’s come to think that Patsy may not be his ideal travelling companion.
