Is Covid vaccination programme in the UK still going smoothly?

- Simon Campbell, Glasgow.

MY WIFE and I had our second Covid vaccinations yesterday at Pensilva, Cornwall, for which we want to say a big THANK YOU to all concerned. We were on a stand-by appointment but, because the vaccination centre had been so quiet, we were in and out quickly. Asking why it had been so quiet, we were told many people had not kept their booked appointments, possibly because of the lovely weather. How appalling is that? Wasted time for the brilliant volunteers and medical staff and, possibly, as it was the Pfizer vaccine being used, unused vaccines being discarded. There should be a penalty for missing an appointment in this situation — a financial one commensurate with the costs incurred and, possibly, a three-day unpaid duty on an NHS Covid Ward. These idiots are putting themselves at risk as well as members of their family and the general population. People are making an effort, potentially to save your life,

and you go swanning off doing something else. It’s disgusting!

i’M STRUGGLING to get the second Pfizer jab for myself and my husband, and i am wondering if others have had this problem, too. i am 80 and i care for my husband, who is 81 and suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. He also has limited mobility and suffers from incontinence. We have been isolating since March 2020. He was a teacher for 42 years, i was a nurse and midwife for 35. We had our first Pfizer jab on January 22, a redletter day. Several friends in our community tell me they had their second jab nine weeks after their first, so i tried chasing up our second one. i tried to book online but was told ‘you are not eligible’. i tried calling 119: ‘you are not eligible’. The people at 111 told me to get in touch with my GP. i tried to contact the GP through the website: ‘Do not get in touch re Covid, we will contact you.’ So, nearly 13 weeks on, i tried approaching the local centre where we’d received our first jab: ‘Contact your GP.’ i found an email address for the councilCovid queries line. The chap there was very kind and took my query up with the GP yesterday. He had a response today and told me the surgery would ring me. it did. The receptionist told me it was nearly 12 weeks since our first jab, (it is nearly 13) and i had to be patient: there are many people in the same boat, there are no supplies available of the Pfizer jab and i would have to wait until May. i cannot find anything on the efficacy of the jab after the 12-week period. Am i allowed out? What if i do, and then bring Covid home to my poor, lost love?

name supplied, Kent. I HAVE heard that second doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been delayed beyond the recommended period. Is this connected with the EU’s Ursula von der Leyen warning a month ago that the Brits could be in trouble now they have given first doses? If this is vindictiveness, it’s very odd coming from her given that she is a doctor.
