Troubled waters

-

FReNCH fishermen in the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer claim they cannot work because 80 per cent have not been granted licences to fish British waters (Mail).

I wonder why they need to fish our waters? Is it because they have, for many years, overfished their own waters?

Our fishing fleets are all but gone because the Dutch and French were allowed into our waters and, using factory ships, proceeded to undercut prices. This caused British fleets using smaller boats to go under.

Lowestoft, where I live, is no longer a thriving fishing port because of overfishing by our european neighbours.

I do not feel at all sorry for French fishermen as they have brought this situation on themselves. Colin GRimmeR, lowestoft, Suffolk.
