Ben’s heroism

-

BeN PARKINSON MBe is a superhero and I can’t wait to read his book. His courage and will to survive horrendous injuries suffered while serving our country show what a brilliant soldier he is.

It is a national disgrace that both he and his wonderful parents have had to battle with military penpushers to receive the treatment and compensation he justly deserves.

Having family serving in the Armed Forces, I think it is about time past and serving service personnel were treated with the respect and gratitude they deserve. Thank goodness they have Johnny Mercer to fight their corner. Syd RawlinSon, Scunthorpe, lincs. IT IS with dismay that I read about the two ex-paratroopers in their 70s who are being prosecuted for an act that took place nearly 50 years ago. These men served their country and did their level best to uphold the law. Conversely, the IRA did their utmost to cause the maximum suffering for people, without conscience.

Official IRA Commander Joe McCann, whom they are accused of murdering in 1972, had a list of terrorist actions that beggars belief.

The IRA wanted to be treated as soldiers but they did not fight in the open as soldiers. Instead, they ‘fought’ from the shadows, hiding behind civilians, women and children. I have met many Irish people and they have all been friendly and welcoming; people who are let down by a group who just craved needless killing.
