ReADING the letter from the gentleman who had a fake Rolex watch, I was reminded of an incident years ago when our son asked us to bring him back a fake Rolex from our trip to Thailand. We did and he was delighted. For his 21st birthday some months later, we bought him a very nice and quite expensive Gucci watch.

One day on a family outing to a local nursery, he came up to me while I was in the queue to pay for my purchases to tell me he had lost his watch. ‘Oh dear,’ I said, ‘your Gucci?’ ‘No it’s all right Mum,’ he replied, ‘it was only the Rolex.’ ‘Good,’ I said. The shop assistant’s face was a picture.
