One in 5 save less than £100

AROUND one in five adults have less than £100 in savings, according to a building society.

One in seven have no nest egg at all and more than a quarter have less than £500 put away.

The Yorkshire Building Society research found that 21 per cent do not save – as against 12 per cent in 2019. However, around one in five did manage to increase their monthly savings during the pandemic. Tina Hughes, of the lender, said the findings showed ‘how fragile many people’s finances are’.
