-

VoDAFoNe has struck a deal to buy equipment from samsung as it prepares for restrictions on Chinese supplier huawei.

The telecoms company will use the kit in the UK, where there is a deadline for operators to remove huawei parts from their 5G networks by 2027.

south Korean giant samsung has not been a major player in supplying europe. Vodafone and samsung did not reveal the deal’s value.

It comes after the Us said huawei equipment posed a security risk to western countries, and that it could facilitate spying by Beijing, a charge the firm repeatedly denied. Vodafone had said it would cost £170m to strip out huawei parts from its network.
