MO’S LAST-DITCH TOKYO BID

SIR MO FARAH will take a final shot at qualifying for the Olympics after UK Athletics hastily arranged a trial race at the British Championships later this month. The four-time Olympic champion has been forced to scramble for a suitable 10,000m race after shockingly finishing 22 seconds outside the qualifying mark in Birmingham on June 5. With Farah facing a deadline of June 27 to achieve the 27min 28sec standard, UKA have stepped in by convening an invitational 10K at the national championships on June 25 in Manchester. There will be question marks over whether Farah can hit the qualifying time, particularly as the 38-year-old (below) cited an ankle injury after his failed attempt in Birmingham. Farah struck a defiant tone, saying: ‘It’s not going to be as easy as saying I can do it. It showed in Birmingham that I am not myself. It would be painful to miss out but I don’t want to just go, I want to challenge (for gold).
