UEFA SCRAP THE AWAY GOALS RULE

-

THE away goals rule will be abolished in Europe from next season, UEFA have confirmed. The rule was introduced in 1965 and decided two-legged ties that were drawn after 180 minutes. All ties level on aggregate at the end of the second leg will now go to extra time and penalties. ‘It is no longer appropriate for an away goal to carry more weight,’ said UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin. UEFA’s club competitions committee made the proposal in May and it has been backed by the executive committee.
