ENGLAND E are facing a fight to stop another highly-rated coach from leaving, with Arsenal targeting Under 18s boss Kevin Betsy. Justin Cochrane, the Under 19s head h coach, recently left for Manchester United, and now Arsenal have identified Betsy as a prime candidate to succeed Steve Bould as coach of the Under 23s. Arsenal are committed to completing a full recruitment process and have advertised the position, for which all applicants must be in possession of a UEFA A licence. But Betsy has already been pinpointed as someone Arsenal believe can fill the role vacated by Bould at the club’s academy, which is undergoing a revamp under Per Mertesacker. The Football Association will want to keep Betsy and stem the flow of coaches leaving for club football. Meanwhile, Lee Carsley is emerging as a strong candidate for the vacant England Under 21 job. Cochrane was understood to be one of the front-runners but his move to United has paved the way for Carsley to be promoted from his position as Under 20 head coach.
