Dizzee Rascal in court for ‘headbutting ex-girlfriend’
DIZZEE Rascal headbutted his ex-girlfriend during a domestic row, a court heard yesterday.
The rapper, whose real name is Dylan Kwabena Mills, is said to have ‘pushed his head into’ Cassandra Jones before shoving her to the floor.
The alleged offence took place at a residential property in Streatham, south London, on June 8.
The 36-year-old went before Croydon magistrates wearing a suit and tie and appeared to be talking on his mobile phone when he arrived.
His defence lawyer, Iskander Fernandez, said he denied the assault charge laid against him on August 2. The case will now go to trial. Dizzee Rascal’s manager, who ‘received a phone call when the altercation took place’, will give evidence at the trial, along with his ex-girlfriend’s mother, Dawn Kirk.
The Metropolitan Police has said Miss Jones reported minor injuries following the alleged incident.
Dizzee Rascal, who is best known for his hit singles Bonkers and Dance Wiv Me, released his debut album Boy In Da Corner in 2003. His seventh studio album, E3 AF, which refers to his east London postcode and African heritage, is due out on October 30.
He was awarded an MBE for services to music last year and performed last month at the Live at Lydiard festival in Swindon and Boardmasters in Cornwall.
He was released on bail and told to return to the same court for his trial in February next year. His address was given as Sevenoaks in Kent.
