RONALDO (No 7) did not play like an out and out No 9 for United but dropped deep to get on the ball as you can see from this average player position map. That meant he was occupying the same spaces as Fernandes (No 18). But rather than be a hindrance it seemed to work for United as the duo interchanged and worked off each other.
