Veteran ‘killed by yob’s punch’
AN ARMY veteran who confronted a group of students smoking near his home died after being punched in the nose, a court heard yesterday.
‘Adored’ grandfather Frank Fishwick, 86, was allegedly hit by Syrian national Mohammed al Aaraj, 19, who has been charged with manslaughter. Widower Mr Fishwick, pictured, had given police ‘a list of complaints as long as your arm’ about the behaviour of the college students, neighbours said.
The former Royal Engineer, from Preston, was taken to hospital on Friday but died later from internal bleeding in his nose, the town’s magistrates heard.
No plea was entered yesterday for Al Aaraj. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Preston Crown Court next month.
