Some 71 per cent of children aged nine to 17 and 94 per cent of those aged six to eight are happy with their life overall.

But 9 per cent of 9 to 17-yearolds don’t think they will have a better life than their parents.

Of those unhappy, 70 per cent are not okay with their mental health.

Girls are nearly twice as likely to be unhappy with their mental health than boys. Older children were also more likely to be unhappy.

Some 40 per cent of girls aged 16 to 17 were unhappy with their mental health.

And 80 per cent of those aged nine to 17 said they are happy with their family life.

Children unhappy with family life are nine times more likely to be unhappy with life overall.
