14 years for doctor who did ‘drug exorcism’
A HOSPITAL anaesthetist who nearly killed his partner after injecting her with drugs during a series of Islamic exorcisms has been jailed for 14 years.
Hossam Metwally, 61, made dozens of recordings of himself strapping Kelly Wilson, 33, to a bed and administering fluids through a cannula while chanting to ‘rid her of evil spirits’.
Sheffield Crown Court was told his actions were a ‘dangerous perversion’ of the Ruqya ritual, an equivalent of an exorcism. Metwally was found guilty by a jury last month of endangering Miss Wilson’s life by intravenous administration of anaesthetic drugs, supply of controlled drugs or medicines and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
He admitted further charges of fraud and voyeurism.
The divorced father of four, who faces being struck off, worked at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.
He was arrested in July 2019 when Miss Wilson became critically ill with multiple organ failure. She has since recovered.
Metwally, who was jailed for 14-and-a-half years, moved to the UK from Egypt. He met Miss Wilson around seven years ago.
