Who needs managers?

WORKING for a multi-national transport company, I wondered what the many levels of the management team contributed to the business.

A u.S. company came to look at the business with a view to buying it. ‘What do all these people do?’ was the question they asked in head office. The buy-out didn’t happen, but swathes of management disappeared and no one missed them.

Maybe this is what needs to happen to the NHS when so many employees aren’t medical but management.
