OLAF Scholz, a 63-year-old lawyer, is a former socialist activist who has served as finance minister under Angela Merkel since 2017.
He claims that Brexit was motivated by ‘deep social insecurities’.
‘Why did Britain vote for Brexit if it was against its own interest?’ he said in an interview with The Guardian earlier this month.
‘I believe it is because people are experiencing deep social insecurities, and lack appreciation for what they do.’
