Grow up, Boris

-

BORIS JOHNSON urges humankind to ‘grow up’ on climate change. In light of the energy crisis, I would suggest it’s the Government that needs to grow up.

While Boris is busy trying to persuade world leaders to take action to save the planet, he should wake up to the critical situation here.

up to 85 per cent of homes rely on gas for heating. Around half of our energy is generated by power stations that rely on natural gas, with a small percentage using coal.

We are seeing energy suppliers falling like nine pins with customers left not knowing who their new supplier will be or how much they will have to pay to heat their homes this winter.

Clearly, we do not produce sufficient natural gas from the North Sea to meet our needs and are reliant on supplies from Russia and Norway. If the supply is cut short or disrupted, our vulnerability would be laid bare.

The supply of energy from renewable sources has increased, but is unreliable because the wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine.

So, what does Boris do? he dons his ‘save the planet’ hat and announces we all need to change our cars for electric models and gas boilers will be banned. Saving the planet? Is he living on the same planet as the rest of us?
