Jenni’s cancer sense

THANK you, Jenni Murray, for saying what I’ve felt since I had breast cancer in 1999 and again in 2007.

Using terms such as ‘fighting’ and ‘battling’ suggests you can recover from cancer if you try hard enough; that’s just not so.

I hate the parade of ‘brave’ survivors who tell us all about how they climbed Kilimanjaro or ran marathons during chemo. I could barely get through the day sometimes.

We all deal with cancer in different ways and what you think is coming will be very different from what you will experience.
