Apple to make 10m fewer iPhones amid global chip shortage

-

FINDING an iPhone 13 this Christmas will be more difficult amid a global shortage of key microchips which is forcing Apple to slash production.

The tech giant says it is likely to cut the number of handsets it makes by up to 10million, reducing the total to around 80 million. The company said the problem was because chip suppliers are struggling to deliver components.

Apple’s latest device, launched in September, will also be affected. Analyst Dan Ives said: ‘Apple will be running into a 5million-plus iPhone 13 unit shortage for the holiday season if consumer demand keeps up at this pace.’ Apple chief executive, Tim Cook, warned in late July that supply chain constraints would have an even bigger impact at the end of the year.
