ROOT MAY GO IN FOR IPL ... AS MORGAN MAKES FINAL

-

ENGLAND Test captain Joe Root is considering entering next year’s player auction for the expanded Indian Premier League. Root, 30, last put himself forward in 2018 but went unsold. However, from 2022 there will be 10 franchises rather than eight, increasing his chances of a place. The competition is due to start 24 hours before England’s Test series in the Caribbean ends. Root’s white-ball counterpart Eoin Morgan will take part in this year’s final after Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Capitals by three wickets last night. Kolkata made hard work of chasing 136 with four ducks in a row — including Morgan — but secured victory with a ball to spare. They take on Chennai in the final tomorrow.
