Care home ‘prison’
I’M INCENSED over the Mail’s front page report that thousands died of Covid in care homes because the elderly were ‘just an afterthought’.
My husband has Alzheimer’s/ vascular dementia and has lived in a nursing home for 18 months. Visiting him is more difficult than ever.
Every time I have an appointment, it’s cancelled due to yet another lockdown in the home. It’s worse than prison for residents and visitors.
There is a high turnover in care staff even though continuity is important for those with dementia. How long must this go on?
What is the point of the Government being proud of the fact people are living longer when they have no quality of life? MARION ENDICOTT,
Warminster, Wilts. AS MUCH of the country seems to have returned to a semblance of normality, please spare a thought for care home residents and their families, who are still enduring visiting restrictions.
While my husband’s care home has done everything possible to facilitate meaningful visits, strict government guidelines prevent me from seeing him in his own room, despite both of us being double vaccinated.
Fearful of further condemnation, is the Government keeping care homes in a permanent lockdown?
