What a trooper

-

NOT all teenagers are snowflakes. My 13-year-old granddaughter, Amy, was playing hockey for an under-15s team when she was hit in the face by a ricocheting ball.

She was left with two black eyes and a broken nose, but the doctor said nothing could be done until the swelling had subsided. Undeterred,

the next day Amy went to school in Leeds and played in another hockey match. She got a round of applause from the other children and praise from her teacher.

A few days later, she went back to the hospital to have her nose straightened, which is a painful procedure.

Her Mum tried to persuade her to take a break from hockey, saying: ‘If you break your nose again I don’t think that the doctors will fix it a second time.’

Amy replied: ‘We could go to a different hospital and tell them I fell in the playground!’

days later she was back playing for the under-15s team. DAVID FOTHERGILL,
