HOW can it be claimed that James Bond is English (Letters)? In Ian Fleming’s novels about the fictitious spy, Bond was part Scottish on his father’s side and his mother was Swiss.

Being characterised in the first films by Scottish actor Sean Connery gave the role a greater deal of authenticity than some of the subsequent Bond actors.
