Euro car sales slump
CAR sales have fallen to a
26-year low in europe as chip shortages brought production to a standstill.
New car registrations fell by 23.1pc in September compared to a year ago, according to the european Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACeA).
The organisation blamed the fall on the chip shortages, which has hammered supply in the automotive sector and forced several major car manufacturers to shut factories.
Sales sank by a quarter in Germany, a major car manufacturing powerhouse. They dropped by a third in Italy, 20.5pc in France and 15.7pc in Spain.
Many car makers had spent the past 18 months scaling back production.
