Adele breaks records with chart topper

THERE was no question Adele’s long-awaited single Easy On Me would be a huge hit.

And so it has proved. Her song has not only topped the Official Singles Chart with 217,300 sales in its first week, it has also notched up the highest week one figure since Ed Sheeran’s 2017 Shape Of You with 226,800.

The 33-year-old star, pictured, also broke a second Official UK Chart record as her single gained 24million streams in the UK this week, topping the previous record of 16.9million held by Ariana Grande.

Adele’s song, from the album 30, also earned her the biggest week of digital download sales in 2021 so far, with 23,500.

And it sparked a resurgence in streams of her older works as fans sent two more of her hits back into the Top 40.
