Blacked up as Sammy Davis Jr, the PC who took photos of dead sisters

A SCOTLAND Yard officer facing jail for photographing the bodies of two murdered black women had previously posted pictures of himself in a blackface costume.

PC Deniz Jaffer, 47, had impersonated the singer Sammy Davis Jr at an event with his family.

The former bank executive, once feted by the Metropolitan Police and London Mayor Sadiq Khan, also posted misogynistic comments on Facebook and photographed a woman who appeared to be passed out drunk on a London Tube train.

The disturbing posts on his Facebook profile prompted questions yesterday about police vetting. They had been online since January 2013, five years before Jaffer joined the Metropolitan Police in March 2018.

Jaffer and PC Jamie Lewis, 33, face jail after admitting they photographed the bodies of sisters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman.

While guarding the murder scene at a park in Wembley last June, they took graphic images and described the victims as ‘two dead birds’ in shared WhatsApp messages.

Jaffer also uploaded a picture to

Facebook in January 2013 showing a woman apparently asleep on a train, captioning it: ‘Puke on her coat as well. Nice touch.’

In September 2017 he posted a photo of himself with two young boys in school uniform whom he stopped ‘for a random chat while walking to work this morning’. A friend replied: ‘You can’t stop kids in the street luv! They’ll think you are some sort of perv! Stranger danger.’

In the same month Jaffer posted a picture showing three women sitting at a table, which was captioned: ‘Talking about sex, make up, sex, shopping, sex, clothes, sex, housework and sex.’

The recruitment of the former senior vice president in client services at Citibank was celebrated by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who retweeted a message from the force saying: ‘Deniz had always dreamed of being a police officer and after 23 years in banking decided to take the plunge.’

Jaffer mentored recruits, but quit when the scandal emerged. At the Old Bailey on Tuesday, he and Lewis admitted misconduct in public office.

Wayne Couzens, the killer of Sarah Everard, was in a chat group swapping alleged misogynistic and racist messages with two Met officers who are now under criminal investigation.

Yesterday, Mr Khan told Times Radio that misuse of social media in the force was a growing problem, adding: ‘There have been too many examples of... unacceptable behaviour by police officers.’
