Fab effort for Fulham is all down to Mitrovic CHAMPIONSHIP

WEEKEND ROUND-UP

- By ADAM SHERGOLD

ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC has left FULHAM fans open-mouthed this season — but team-mate Fabio Carvalho made it clear the striker’s impact extends way beyond the scoresheet. Another goal in the 4-1 defeat of BARNSLEY took Mitrovic’s league tally to 21 goals, eight more than the Cottagers’ opponents on Saturday have managed in total. The Serb’s exploits prompted midfielder Tom Cairney to declare he had never seen a forward in such form, while Neeskens Kebano struggled to think of one who can match Mitrovic’s aerial threat. Carvalho is benefiting from Mitrovic’s know-how and a link-up between the pair led to the teenager scoring the second goal. ‘It’s something I’ve been trying in training, combinations off Mitro, because I know if I play it to him, the ball’s going to come back to me,’ said Carvalho. WEST BROMWICH lost further ground on the top two with a 1-0 defeat at play-off chasing HUDDERSFIELD. Danel Sinani slid in to win the game after six minutes and the Baggies ended the game with 10 men after Jake Livermore’s high boot on Fraizer Campbell. STOKE consolidated their position in the top six with a 2-0 win over PETERBOROUGH. Tyrese Campbell scored his first goal in almost a year after a knee injury to seal the win after Mario Vrancic’s early opener. Stoke’s Sam Surridge had been sent off in stoppage time for a headbutt to Josh King’s stomach. COVENTRY also remain in the play-off spots despite a goalless draw at SHEFFIELD UNITED. Former Blades keeper Simon Moore made a crucial save to deny Morgan Gibbs-White a late winner and Slavisa Jokanovic’s men remain down in 17th in the table. New READING signing Andy Carroll helped them to a 1-1 draw against NOTTINGHAM FOREST. The former England striker, 32, played a part in the build-up to Scott Dann’s second-half equaliser after Philip Zinckernagel had given Reading an early lead. ‘Andy met his teammates only five days ago but he has already influenced them,’ said Royals boss Veljko Paunovic.
