Standing up for animals in need

-

HILLSIDE was founded in 1995 to help and campaign for animals in need, particularly those who suffer every day in the factory farming industry. With Martin Shaw as its patron, it is now home to more than 4,000 rescued animals including horses, ponies, donkeys, cows and sheep. The animals receive excellent basic care and its ability to save so many is attributable to the loyal help of supporters, without whom it would not have been able to turn a vision into reality. The sanctuary’s investigation team continues to gain evidence of the appalling standards of animal welfare in the factory farming industry. And undercover work has gone from strength to strength, resulting in a number of successful prosecutions. It has regularly worked with high-profile TV programmes, such as Tonight With Trevor McDonald, to raise awareness about the plight of animals used for food. For example, it exposed horrific suffering to horses in the UK’s largest horse slaughterhouse, the Red Lion Abattoir, which then went on to be investigated by the Food Standards Agency and is now closed. Hillside Dog Rescue takes in, and finds loving homes for, dogs in need and currently has around 40 dogs in its care, waiting to be adopted.
