Brace for anger of Arwen as 80mph storm blows in
THE first named storm of the season is set to hit Britain with 80mph gales, rain and snow through today and tomorrow.
As Storm Arwen arrives, strong winds affecting much of the UK, except the South east, are expected from this morning until 9am tomorrow. The Met Office has issued an amber warning from the north of Scotland to Flamborough Head, east Yorkshire, between 3pm today and 9am tomorrow.
The warning says high winds could cause a danger to life from flying debris. It states: ‘High winds associated with Storm Arwen are expected to cause some travel disruption and damage.’ Forecasters said the storm will ‘probably cause damage to trees, temporary structures and buildings, such as through tiles blown from roofs’. High winds are first due in the West but will move to be strongest in the North east.
Sleet and wet snow is also possible over lower ground in england, as far south as the Chilterns.
Dan Suri, of the Met Office, said Arwen ‘will widely bring gusts of up to 65mph in coastal areas, although slightly stronger in the North east, with in excess of 75mph possible in exposed locations’.
