Terrible loss of life

YOU have to feel deep sorrow for the tragic loss of life of those attempting to cross the Channel.

TV footage showed a spokesman for the French port authority saying how sad the deaths were.

Contrast that with photographs of French police the previous day standing by and watching migrants launch inflatable boats.

How can anyone take seriously the integrity of the French in attempting to halt migrants?

I can only hope this tragedy will focus the authorities on taking effective action to arrest the people smugglers and criminal gangs.
