Carrie’s ally gets a buzz out of bees...
BORIS Johnson’s wife, Carrie, is passionate about ‘rewilding’. And now, I hear, one of her pals, wild animal breeder Derek Gow, has convinced a prominent aristocrat to abandon farming in favour of letting nature take hold.
James Lowther, who inherited his family’s castle in the Lake District, claims the farming practices of his father, the late Earl of Lonsdale, ‘trashed the land’.
He tells me: ‘I bulldozed the chicken sheds behind Lowther Castle and put together a plan to save it and the gardens.’
Without the dairy, beef and chicken farming, how’s he making money? ‘I’ve built 600 beehives,’ he explains.
