Dodgy contract

IF We had hired Boris Johnson to run security for the Uk and defend its borders, and the relationship had been governed by commercial law, we would have fired him.

Our system of government and democracy allows us to chose a contractor after we’ve studied their sales pitch (manifesto) only to find it’s worthless (not legally binding).

We are powerless to do anything about it until the next sales conference (election) five years later.

Given that we have the choice of two incompetent contractors to run our country, we need the ability to instruct them when we choose.

We should emulate Switzerland’s system of citizen initiatives and frequent referenda. STUART NOYES, Andover, Hants.
