White delight on historic night
ELLEN WHITE became England’s all-time leading goalscorer last night as the Lionesses thrashed Latvia 20-0 to record their biggest ever win. White started the game with 45 international goals — one behind Kelly Smith — but took only nine minutes to score the two she needed to break the record, then claimed her hat-trick in the second half. Beth Mead had opened the scoring in the third minute and after White’s recordbreaking moment she added another, before Lauren
Hemp scored her first England goal. There was still time for Mead to grab her hat-trick before Ella Toone added her name to the scoresheet. Hemp made it 8-0 before half-time. After White sealed her treble in style, Georgia
Stanway converted a penalty and Jess Carter broke her England duck. Beth England headed in the 12th on the hour before Jill Scott made it 13-0, equalling the record-winning margin set in 2005 against Hungary. That was broken when Alessia Russo scored in the 70th minute. Hemp then grabbed her hat-trick before Jordan Nobbs got in on the act. Russo scored her second and third to make it four hat-tricks and 18-0. England then struck again before Hemp grabbed her fourth to complete the 20-0 rout.
