Cold comfort

-

WORSHIPPERS seeking comfort, fellowship and an escape from loneliness this Christmas have to show a Covid pass to attend services at Durham Cathedral.

The carol In The Bleak Midwinter has a 2021 resonance with an insight into how the Virgin Mary must have felt when she was told there was no room at the inn.

Today, there is room at pubs, but not at a place of worship, for those without Covid passes.

DAVID FLEMING, Downham Market, Norfolk. AT MY village carol service, there were only 30 people in a church that can hold 100. The nave has a high ceiling with plenty of air circulation. But the rules say everyone had to wear a mask. If we had all then gone to the pub, we wouldn’t have to.

ROBERT ROWE, Glentham, Lincs.
