BLOW FOR GB HOPES AS ATKIN BREAKS PELVIS

- By RIATH AL-SAMARRAI

BRITISH prospects at the Winter Olympics have sustained a major hit after 2018 bronze medallist Izzy Atkin broke her pelvis competing in the US. With less than seven weeks until the Games in Beijing, the skier, Britain’s prime medal hope, suffered the injury in Colorado. She wrote on social media: ‘Didn’t think I’d be back in a hospital bed so soon but that is just how it goes sometimes. I managed to cap off a fun week of skiing with a broken pelvis. There’s a long and painful recovery ahead but I’m already up and walking and keeping hope alive for the Olympics in February.’ Atkin’s slopestyle bronze in Pyeongchang in 2018 was Britain’s first skiing medal at a Winter Olympics.
