Anthea’s still glowing at 61... after taking the pills prescribed for her pet dog
She has made no secret of her fondness for Botox and cosmetic surgery. But now Anthea turner has revealed a rather less conventional method for maintaining youthful looks at the age of 61.
the Tv presenter claims it is all down to taking a medicine that had been prescribed for one of her dogs.
Miss turner says the vet joked that the collagen pills would be good for her, too. And while many would scoff at the comment, she took it literally.
the former Blue Peter presenter told Platinum magazine how in 1999 she took her puppies Digger and Buddie to Noel Fitzpatrick, now better known as Tv’s Supervet.
‘When my golden retrievers were pups my vet, Noel Fitzpatrick – then a jobbing vet – detected in one of them a little bit of hip displacement,’ she said.
‘he recommended glucosamine and chondroitin to stop them getting hip dysplasia and arthritis.
‘then he jokingly said I should be taking collagen too because, as we age,
‘I was definitely ahead of the curve’
it’s something we lose from our faces as well as our joints.
‘So I began taking the same collagen tablets as the dog.’
Miss turner, who was 39 at the time and presenting holiday programme Wish You Were here, has since swapped the dog medication for a powdered supplement intended for humans.
Collagen is a protein responsible for maintaining healthy joints and skin elasticity. It breaks down with age and becomes harder to replace.
Of the benefits she felt from taking the supplement, Miss turner said: ‘It’s not just about what it does to your skin and hair. It’s only now that I realise I never ache. I was definitely ahead of the curve thanks to Digger, Buddie and Noel Fitzpatrick.’
She posed with the dogs for a 2008 celebrity pets calendar and has often tweeted about her heartbreak in the years since the deaths.
Miss turner has been married twice, to Radio 1 DJ Peter Powell and then to businessman Grant Bovey – the couple famously used their 2000 wedding to plug a chocolate bar.
She has been with fiance Mark Armstrong since 2019.
Last month Miss turner told Tv host Lorraine Kelly about having plastic surgery, saying. ‘I’ve had the boobies done and I swear by Botox. I can still frown. I haven’t looked really angry since I was 40 and my goodness, you know me, I’ve been angry. I can still laugh!’
