Gumshield makes cleaning teeth child’s play

- By Sean Poulter Consumer Affairs Editor

Trying to brush a toddler’s teeth at bedtime can be a miserable and pointless task, but help is at hand.

A British company has designed a vibrating gumshield and strawberry toothpaste that it says scrubs them clean without tears or tantrums.

The Wiggle, which costs £39.99, is designed for children aged two and over. Toothpaste is squirted into its two silicone moulds, which fit snugly over the upper and lower teeth and then vibrate for 60 seconds.

Toby Brittan, of Whites Beaconsfield, which makes Wiggle, said: ‘not only do parents find it hard to get their children to brush their teeth, they are not brushing their teeth properly. After nearly a year of research and development we are absolutely delighted to have created a product that takes the stress out of tooth brushing for parents and makes it fun for children.

‘Our fun alternative to a standard toothbrush cleans every tooth at a 360-degree angle.’

His brother Ollie said: ‘We believe we have made cleaning your teeth a fun and enjoyable activity, something that children can look forward to every morning and evening.’ Dr Ali Hussain, a dentist, said it was a ‘game changer’, adding: ‘As a parent i know the stress of trying to encourage your little one to brush their teeth and this is the answer.

‘not only does Wiggle make teeth cleaning a fun activity it also cleans teeth more efficiently,’ he said.

This all assumes that parents don’t have to rugby tackle their children to the ground to get the gumshield in their mouth in the first place.
