Coming soon, sunshine in a beer bottle

-

THE last two years may have been something of a marketing nightmare for Mexican beer brand Corona.

But the brewer’s unfairly tarnished reputation could be given a feelgood boost with its new alcohol-free lager that is bursting with a sunshine vitamin.

Each 330ml bottle of their Sunbrew contains 30 per cent of an adult’s required daily intake of vitamin D. During the winter most Britons suffer a lack of vitamin D, which is normally provided by being in the sun or eating foods such as oily fish, eggs and red meat.

It keeps bones, teeth and muscles healthy, while research suggests it also helps reduce inflammation and wards off viruses. The NHS advises considering taking supplements between October and early March to stay healthy.

Adverts for Sunbrew – to be launched in the UK later this year – show bikiniclad models sipping ice-cold bottles.

Corona said it faced challenges getting vitamin D into its beer. Research and development chief Brad Weaver said: ‘The journey was not easy. But thanks to ongoing research, our team created the only non-alcoholic beer with vitamin D.’
