Omicron peaks ... as 97.5% of us have antibodies

-

OMICRON has already peaked in Britain and the number of severely ill Covid patients has fallen to the lowest level for three months, figures revealed yesterday.

Separate data from the Office for National Statistics showed that 97.5 per cent of adults in England now have antibodies to fight off the virus.

And, in further positive news, cases have plummeted back to pre-Christmas levels – with 109,133 infections recorded yesterday. Some 335 deaths were also reported, although experts have suggested many of them are likely to be ‘incidental’. And there are currently just 785 patients on ventilators – the lowest figure since October.

Professor Tim Spector, who leads the Zoe Covid Study at King’s College London, said: ‘The Omicron wave has peaked and cases are starting to come down in almost all regions of the UK.’ Although he warned rates would not ‘go down to zero’, he said they would probably be ‘manageable’ until late spring.
