Reduce our bills
AS A temporary solution to the energy crisis, the Government should step in and remove the standing charges.
They can be up to £200 and, to add insult to injury, are subject to VAT. Getting rid of standing charges would reward low energy users and help the poorest stay warm.
Coincidentally, £200 is the amount that is taken from everyone’s bill for green levies.
The Government could pay this instead as a standing charge rebate and still keep its green credentials. ANDREW STEVENS,
