The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine forecast on December 19 more than 120,000 Covid patients could be in hospital at the peak of the Omicron wave, if booster jabs proved effective and no additional measures other than Plan B were introduced. Bed occupancy peaked at just 17,120 in England and has since fallen.
