Jo Reid, Country Manager UK of Celestyal Cruises, on smaller ports, taster cruises, childhood holiday disasters – and Mamma Mia!

■ Where can Celestyal take us on holiday?

‘We are proud to focus on Greece, so we have got cruises to all of the country’s most beautiful destinations. That includes smaller, lesser-known islands as well as all-time favourites such as Santorini and Mykonos.

‘We also take guests to Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt and Israel. But wherever we go, there’s welcoming hospitality, locally sourced food and wine, authentic entertainment and inspiring shore excursions.’

■ What makes your cruises special?

‘Most cruise companies are focused on building larger ships that can accommodate up to 5,000 passengers. But our two mid-sized vessels carry no more than 1,800 guests.

‘That means we can get into smaller ports and guests really get to know our friendly crews.’

■ What should readers look out for when booking a cruise?

‘It’s worth checking to see if you face hidden costs for items such as soft and alcoholic drinks, port charges and gratuities. They’re all included with us.

‘We also offer three- or four-night Mediterranean cruises that are perfect for first-timers.’

■ What’s your first holiday memory?

‘Driving to a campsite in the West Country where I got stung by a bee, the car broke down and had to be towed, and a storm hit as we put up our tent. But I still fell in love with travel!’

■ What do you never travel without?

‘My Kindle. On holiday, with no school runs or packed lunches to worry about, I can easily read four books in a week.’

■ Where have you spent your favourite holidays?

It’s probably no surprise that Greece is on my list. Even before joining Celestyal, I’d been to Skiathos, Kefalonia, Halkidiki, Zante, Corfu and Crete. At the moment I’m daydreaming about Skopelos, where they filmed Mamma Mia! I’m sure it’s the perfect spot to relax.’
