THE Attenboroughs turned out in force yesterday to see their father dubbed Sir Richard by the Queen. Daughters Charlotte and Jane, and wife Sheila, were all at the Palace for the ceremony. The actor, producer and director, 52, has starred in more than 40 films since his first screen role in Noel Coward’s 1942 In Which We Serve.

THE pound in your pocket will never be the same again. Yesterday, the Queen signed Royal proclamations making the £1 coin — and a new 20p piece — legal tender. It is a pale gold colour and resembles the sovereign that went out of circulation in 1914.

JENNIfER ANISTON, 53. The U.S. actress, who played Rachel Green in TV’s friends, said in 2020 she might quit acting — to become an interior designer. The ex-wife of actors Brad Pitt and Justin Theroux also revealed she did five workouts a week and followed the 16:8 intermittent fasting diet, saying: ‘I noticed a big difference in going without solid food for 16 hours.’ Late Kojak star Telly Savalas was her godfather. DENNIS SKINNER, 90. The former Derbyshire Labour MP dubbed ‘the Beast of Bolsover’, lost his seat in 2019 after 49 years in the Commons, where he was the oldest member. Three years earlier, he was suspended from the chamber for referring to Prime Minister David Cameron as ‘dodgy Dave’ over his tax affairs. The former miner said he didn’t email because he wanted to ‘keep the postman in work’.

BORN ON THIS DAY

GENE VINCENT (1935-1971). The leatherclad U.S. musician, born Vincent Craddock, made his name with Be-Bop-A-Lula. The song, covered by everyone from Cliff Richard to Boney M, was sung by Paul McCartney at a 1957 church fete where he first met John Lennon. Vincent broke his leg in a 1960 UK car crash that killed friend and fellow American rocker Eddie Cochran. EVA GABOR (1919-1995). The Hungarian-born actress wed five times but was eclipsed by the nine husbands of sister Zsa Zsa. Gabor, who starred in sitcom Green Acres and the movie Gigi, described her debut forced Landing as ‘a B picture only to those too lazy to go down the alphabet’. She later established Eva Gabor International that became the world’s largest wig-maker.
